Everything Old is New Again

Chances are your seemingly stale rooms already contain all the right elements.. It may be that all they need is some artful mixing up to pull it all together, so consider everything in your home as raw material for a new and improved decor. It can work in any room, and helps you get style mileage out of things you already own or buy second-hand.

Don’t be scared to mix things up for warm touches that unite the past and present, such as an antique side table paired up with a contemporary sofa.

The idea is not to adhere slavishly to a particular style or era but to project your own taste and personality.
A room with more of an eclectic feel, with a furniture collection that was built up slowly, says so much more about you than a room that looks as if everything arrived on the same delivery truck! Just one piece of antique furniture used in a modern room is enough to create a strong composition. Being from a completely different era to everything else in the room, your antique will become a strong focal point, giving the space clarity and balance.

I practice what I preach and have created an eclectic mix of old and new in my own home.

Lucky for me my dad is a bit of a hoarder when it comes to furniture, so one day I fumbled through the cobwebs and found two pieces I thought had potential (everyone else thought they were ready for the dump).  But I was persistent and my beautiful dad ‘The Handyman’ painted them gloss black and I added some new crystal handles. They look amazing.. and the best thing is they didn’t cost me anything!

So sometimes all it takes is a coat of paint..

My interview with Light Home Magazine

My Sofa (Australian made of course!)
Buying a new sofa - one of the largest and most-used pieces of furniture in your home, the scene of much reading, TV-watching, snoozing and everything else - is certainly not a task to take on lightly!

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Denese Bottrell from Light Home Magazine where I offered some of my advice on selecting the right green sofa.
